Serving people who are injured in Gloucester County

Originally created in 1650, the history of Gloucester County stretches all the way back to the earliest days of colonial settlement. In fact, Chief Powhatan, who was the father of Pocahontas, lived at Werowocomoco in Gloucester.

Legend has it that Pocahontas convinced her father to spare the life of Captain John Smith of Jamestown, which was the first successful English colony in America, founded in 1607. Citizens of Gloucester County have commemorated this important part of our history with a striking statue of Pocahontas on Main Street by Adolf Sehring, which was unveiled in 1994.

Located at the east end of the lower peninsula, Gloucester County is bordered on the south by the York River and on the east by Chesapeake Bay. Blessed with scenic countryside and rich farmland, the county’s first major crop was tobacco. Early land patents were granted in 1639, and George Washington’s great grandfather received a land patent in 1650.

Gloucester Courthouse is the County Seat. Other cities include Achilles, Ark, Bena, Dutton, Gloucester, Gloucester Point, Hayes, Maryus, Ordinary, Schley, Ware Neck, White Marsh, Wicomico, and Woods Crossroads.

When accidents happen in Gloucester County

GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys was founded by people with deep ties to the Commonwealth of Virginia. We think it’s the best place in the world to live and raise a family. We love visiting Gloucester County and touring its impressive museums and historic sites. The county is also a great place for shopping and outdoor activities.

Although Gloucester County is a friendly community where neighbors take care of each other, accidents still happen. The influx of tourists adds pressure to the scenic roads and highways, increasing the chances that local citizens may be hurt in an accident. According to the DMV, in the most recent year where statistics are available, there were 372 crashes in Gloucester County, resulting 242 injuries and six fatalities.

Our personal injury law firm was founded by two former U.S. Marines who feel a profound duty to help people who have been injured in accidents. We want everyone in Virginia to be safe, but when accidents happen, we’re here to fight for your rights. We’ll help you get a fair settlement to cover the cost of your medical care and help you get back on your feet again.

Staying safe among the daffodils

Daffodils began growing wild throughout Gloucester County over five centuries ago. Gloucester is known as “the Daffodil Capital of America,” and the local Daffodil Festival attracts thousands of visitors each April. With so many people walking and driving around, there’s bound to be accidents. Here are some tips to help local residents stay safe:

  1. Watch your step. Walking is a great way to stay in shape and take in the natural splendor. But remember to always be careful, especially in the winter months when ice and snow can make roads and walkways more slippery. Local government and property owners have an obligation to maintain a safe environment by removing tripping hazards right away and providing sufficient lighting so you can always see where you are going.
  2. Be careful on the water. Fishing and boating are popular activities in Gloucester County. Boater safety begins before you get out on the water. Always remember to bring enough life preservers for everyone. Make sure your radio is working and bring along other safety equipment such as a fire extinguisher, signaling devices, and a first aid kit. And make sure the kids are wearing their life preservers at all times when they are on the water.
  3. Be careful on the road. Tourists don’t always know where they are going, and this can cause them to make sudden maneuvers that can endanger other drivers. That’s why you want to drive defensively and maintain a lot of space around your vehicle, especially on weekends and in the summertime when there are a lot of people out driving who don’t know the local roads as well as you do. The best way to avoid car accidents is to always obey the speed limits and never drink and drive. In the most recent year with available statistics, half of the traffic fatalities in Gloucester County involved drivers who were either speeding or under the influence.
