GibsonSingleton partner John Singleton, Scoot’s and Olivia’s owners Karen and Gary Ward, and GibsonSingleton’s Ken Gibson announce their 2024 “Hometown Heroes” campaign. These businesses want to honor everyday heroes chosen by the public.

By Beth Gibson, GibsonSingleton Director of Community Outreach

We at GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys are teaming up with Olivia’s in the Village and Scoot’s BBQ to recognize everyday heroes in our community.

We all want to honor people nominated by YOU who inspire others with their acts of kindness and compassion.

Anyone over 16 may nominate a “Hometown Hero.” Nominees may be anyone you admire, including teachers, neighbors, friends or family members, co-workers, first responders, healthcare workers, members of the military, or volunteers.

Winners will be announced every other month throughout 2024 and will receive a $100 gift certificate to Olivia’s or Scoot’s, along with a gift basket from GibsonSingleton.

Nominees must live in Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, King William, King & Queen, or York County.

GibsonSingleton Partner Ken Gibson said: “We all see ordinary people doing extraordinary things around us. So, we wanted to recognize these unsung heroes and share their examples.”

Gary Ward, co-owner of Olivia’s and Scoot’s said, “In my restaurants, I often meet people who amaze me by how much they give to others – whether it’s time, resources, or just sharing a kind word. This ‘Hometown Heroes’ campaign is our way of saying, ‘We see you,’ to these humble and sometimes forgotten people.”

John Singleton, partner at GibsonSingleton, added: “We are fortunate to live in a wonderful place, and we know it’s because of the people. We want to highlight the everyday heroes among us who make a county into a community.”

Karen Ward, co-owner of Olivia’s and Scoot’s said, “I am excited to meet the everyday heroes people nominate and to celebrate with them all year long.”

Nominating a Hometown Hero

To nominate a hero, anyone over 16 may fill out our short online form, or you can find links to this form on our GibsonSingleton Facebook page, or the Facebook pages of Olivia’s, or Scoot’s. Printed forms may also be picked up and returned to the law firm or the restaurants.

The reason given for nominating the hero may be brief or detailed, but no more than 300 words.

Nominations may be submitted anytime in March for the first winner to be announced in mid-April.  Then, nominations will open again in May for a winner to be announced in June. This will continue throughout 2024, with nominations in July, September, and November, for winners announced in mid-August, October, and December.

The hero must live in Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, King William, King & Queen, or York counties. A person may submit only one entry per month, and a hero may win only once in 2024.

The first winner will be announced right here at gibsonsingleton.com, and on our Facebook for GibsonSingleton, Olivia’s and Scoot’s in mid-April.
