That word means a lot of things. Serving dinner. The service you get in a restaurant. Serving as a deacon at your church. Here’s a phrase you hear a lot around Eastern Virginia:
A blue-collar lawyer: explaining what we really do
Question: “What do you call 1,000 lawyers at the bottom of the Chesapeake Bay?”
Answer: “A good start.”
Lawyers have the most jokes told about them…and often the worst reputations. On TV, we watch money-hungry Hollywood divorce attorneys and two-faced weasels trying to protect the rich and powerful companies. Some lawyers even seem to enjoy making everyone else feel small.

- What is your idea of perfect happiness?
JS: When all is where it should be. No, it’s not OCD; it’s just me. - What is the trait you most deplore in others?
JS: Arrogance. - What is your favorite journey?
JS: Learning. - What do you consider the most overrated virtue?
JS: Intellect (as opposed to hard work). - Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
JS: The colorful ones. - What or who is the greatest love of your life?
JS: My family. - When and where were you happiest?
JS: Right here, right now. - What is your current state of mind?
JS: Fantastic. - What do you consider your greatest achievement?
JS: Positive mental attitude. - Best safety tip for people in our area?
JS: Lock your car doors.

On celebrating the Marine Corps’ birthday and Veterans Day
Ken Gibson and John Singleton proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the late 1980s and early 1990s. They wish all Marines a Happy Birthday! They also salute their fellow veterans and active military members and thank them for their service and sacrifice for our great country.
Happy Father’s Day — and meet my dad
My dad, Harold Gibson, lives in Richmond. A retired high school principal and assistant superintendent in Chesterfield County, he now enjoys spending time with our family, reading, and going to Richmond Spiders basketball games.
You’re invited to Rock’n Rotary on Jan. 23 in Gloucester
The Gloucester and Gloucester Point Rotary Clubs invite you to the second annual Rock’n Rotary charity event from 6 to 10 p.m. Sat. Jan. 23 at the Abingdon Ruritan Club in Gloucester. Tickets are $25, which includes two drinks and a souvenir cup. Food for purchase will be provided by Juan’s Mexican Cafe and Cantina.
Coats are coming in!
Generous donors have already given more than 60 coats through GibsonSingleton’s Fall Coat Drive! The Salvation Army is already distributing them to those in need. We at GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys say, “Thank you, and keep ‘em coming!” Every donor gets a free ice scraper through Dec. 18, and we’ll start drawings for prizes very soon. GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys is holding our first annual Fall Coat Drive now through Dec. 18, 2015. We invite you to drop off new or used coats from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, at our office, 4073 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes.
