GibsonSingleton kicks off annual Texts=Wrecks Scholarship!

By Beth Gibson on February 7, 2022

We at GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys are launching our Texts=Wrecks Scholarship for 2022. The past few years have certainly been challenging for students, but we are confident that they will once again impress us with their ambition, ingenuity, and compassion!

At our firm, we try to stop accidents before they happen. That’s why we started our “Text=Wrecks” campaign – to save lives. Every year in the United States, approximately 920,000 accidents are caused by distracted driving. Additionally, a third of all traffic-related fatalities are caused by people driving under the influence (DUI.)

In our line of work, we know you can’t undo a car wreck.  But you can do everything in your power to be a safe driver and encourage others to drive safely as well. So, we need your help!

How do I apply?

To apply for this scholarship, a student must:

  • Be a high school senior on track to graduate OR a college student enrolled in an accredited four-year university/college, or currently enrolled in a two-year college and planning to transfer to a four-year university/college upon completion.
  • Have earned, or will earn, your high school diploma this calendar year.
  • Have maintained a 3.0 or higher GPA.
  • Be a U.S. Citizen or hold Permanent Residency status. DACA recipients are welcome to apply.

Qualifying students can then write a short essay. The essay should be 500-1,000 words and answer the following question:

When you go to college, you’re essentially moving from the passenger seat of life into the driver’s seat. Now, you’ll be making your own choices, both good and bad. At GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys, we’re passionate about preventing senseless accidents by encouraging people to make good choices—like choosing not to drive distracted, or choosing not to drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs!

How are you going to take what you’ve learned so far in life to make these types of decisions now that you’re an adult? How will you, or how have you already, encouraged others to make wise choices as well, especially about their driving?

Finally, students should fill out the application form, and send the form and essay in by May 3, 2022. Once we’ve received all the applications, we will read them and select the most outstanding ones. Finalists will be announced on May 17, 2022, and we will announce our winner on May 31, 2022. The winner will receive $1,000 for their post-secondary education.
