GibsonSingleton law concludes “Car Seats for Kids” campaign with final winner, other highlights

By Beth Gibson, Director of Community Outreach
We have concluded our “Car Seats for Kids” safety campaign by announcing our final car seat winner and by sharing more car safety information.
For the giveaways, people were invited to nominate themselves or someone else on our Facebook page, and one winner was chosen randomly each month. We have also shared car safety information for parents and caregivers on this website and on Facebook.
Joni Weishoff of Gloucester, along with her 17-month-old daughter Laci, won our car seat for December. Melissa Kellum of Gloucester won for November; Melissa and her husband Jordan are expecting their first baby in February. October’s winner was Danielle Hundley of Urbanna. Danielle is expecting a baby girl, TaLeah, this month.
All three winners received a Graco convertible seat, which will take their children from infancy through elementary school. The December car seat was donated by Dr. Ashley Nester of Nester Dental in Gloucester, who took a special interest in the campaign and wanted to help.

GibsonSingleton Virginia Injury Attorneys has given away three Graco car seats to local moms during our fall “Car Seats for Kids” campaign.

Another highlight of the safety campaign was that “Virginia Lawyers Weekly” magazine, which serves legal professionals throughout the state, featured us on the front page of its print and online versions in October.
GibsonSingleton partner Ken Gibson said, “Our ‘Car seats for Kids’ campaign gave us the opportunity to share with people throughout Virginia what we’ve learned about keeping kids safer with car seats, as well as to give away car seats to some great parents.”

Melissa Kellum of Gloucester, November winner, receives her car seat from John Singleton.
Partner John Singleton said: “As personal injury attorneys, we see too many young people seriously injured in wrecks. Often, the injuries could have been prevented or greatly reduced. Using safety restrains properly doubles a child’s chance of surviving a wreck.”
Gibson said, “Making sure you buy the right car seat, install it correctly, and use it the right way is not easy. That’s why we have featured the best local and national resources we’ve found to help you keep your child as safe as possible in the car.”

Danielle Hundley of Urbanna, October winner, receives her car seat from Ken Gibson.
We have shared links to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website and its Car Seat Finder, along with installation tips.
We also note that in Gloucester, Investigator and safety expert Jason Schnurr at the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office will check car seats and answer safety questions. To request an appointment or for more information, Investigator Schnurr may be reached at 804-824-2757.
Singleton concluded: “We hope that our “Car Seats for Kids” campaign has reminded parents and caregivers to buckle up their children in the right car safety restraints every time you get in a car. It’s simple, and it saves lives.”
